Architecture and Integration
One of the system’s core strengths is its simplicity and ease of setup.

  • Minimalist Wiring: The system utilizes Power over Ethernet (PoE), allowing sensors to be connected via a single cable that provides both power and data.
  • Centralized Processing: Data is processed by a latest-generation Programmable Automation Controller (PAC), which manages I/Os and hosts a web-based operator interface.
  • Flexible HMI: Any PC with an internet browser can act as an HMI, regardless of the operating system, thanks to web-based services or socket server applications.
  • The system typically comprises three main units:
  • Electronic Power Cabinet (EPC): Houses the PAC (Core) for signal processing.
  • Motion Control Panel (MCP): Manages the junction and handling.
  • Frame: Contains the measurement sensors.

Thanks to support for multiple industrial protocols, the nGauge integrates seamlessly into both new and existing plant automation environments.

Versatile Configurations and Applications
The nGauge is built to handle a wide spectrum of metals and thicknesses, making it suitable for various production lines, including hot and cold rolling of steel, aluminum, brass, copper, and specialty alloys.

  • Steel: 0.010 mm to 50 mm (hot)
  • Aluminum: 0.007 mm to 400 mm
  • Brass: 0.010 mm to 15 mm

Whether measuring thin foil or thick plate, the system offers configurations that include a robust frame designed to withstand the rigors of continuous industrial operation.

"Mill Duty" Sensor Technology
To ensure longevity in extreme conditions, the sensors are proprietary and manufactured in-house rather than purchased externally. This allows for greater control over quality and performance. The system utilizes two primary sensor components:

  • HF Generator: Features internally generated high voltage (up to 250kV Max), a digital drive with Ethernet IP protocol, and electronics immersed in vegetable oil. It utilizes indirect water-oil convection cooling, eliminating critical failure risks even if cooling is interrupted for up to 2-3 days.
  • IC Detector: An ion chamber with integrated electronics on a single board, also utilizing digital drive and PoE.

The components are built to be "Mill Duty," boasting an IP67 protection class and the ability to withstand harsh conditions.

High-Precision Performance
The nGauge is designed to meet rigorous international standards (IEC 1336, EN50081, ISO7205) and delivers exceptional performance metrics:

The nGauge system distinguishes itself through a combination of digital innovation and robust engineering:

  • Open Protocols: Cross-platform, web-based software ensures compatibility and ease of use.
  • Digital Sensors: Totally digital, proprietary sensors utilizing Ethernet IP protocol.
  • Resilient Cooling: Water-oil convection cooling in the generator ensures operational continuity even during cooling system failures.
  • Reduced Wiring: PoE technology minimizes cabling complexity and installation time.
  • High-Speed AGC: Writing times for Automatic Gauge Control cycles are less than 100 microseconds.
  • Modularity: Flexible architecture allows for easy customization and redundancy for safety.

In summary, the nGauge offers a modern, reliable, and high-performance solution for metals producers looking to enhance quality control, reduce downtime, and achieve precise thickness measurements in the most demanding industrial environments.
